Sabanci University
Istanbul, Turkey
Harry Warren led the winning competition design for the new Sabanci University 3500 student campus constructed on a 250 acre site in Istanbul, Turkey. The campus consists of 27 individual buildings constructed at one time and linked together with a 1.5 KM utility tunnel system. The design is based on the work of Sinan, the architect of the Ottoman period who created the urban image of Istanbul, refining the architecture of mosques as seemingly suspended, sunlit domes. The client’s goal was to design a campus rooted in the history of Turkey but reflecting the 21st century in its academic program and facility detail. In addition to being responsible for the campus plan, Harry designed all of the buildings and interiors, directing a group of 50 architects and engineers. This project was nominated for an Aga Kahn Award for Architecture.
